A series of macabre murders gain notoriety during the autumn of 1888, in the Whitechapel district, east London, the mutilated bodies of prostitutes reflect the barbarity of the crimes. The forces of order are ridiculed for the elusiveness of the deranged murderer. Despite not being officially on the case, Sherlock Holmes decides to intervene, largely at the insistence of his friend and partner Dr. Watson, who after observing Holmes's strange behaviour, ends up disturbed by a dark thought. The failure of a plan to capture the murderer causes Holmes to dedicate himself to identifying the “Whitechapel Ripper”, but this takes his time. After a strenuous investigation and violating some laws in the process, he manages to identify him. An ambush set by the assassin places them face to face for the first time, thus beginning an endless game of cat and mouse, with no defined roles. The pursuit of the criminal becomes extremely dangerous, so Holmes has to use all his abilities to end the terrible acts of the deranged man, making him stay behind the Shadow of the Ripper during this adventure.
